About Our neighbors have a beautiful butterfly garden. This is an attempt to capture one of the cone flowers.

Jaggies caused by jpeg compression.

Actual info: ISO 200, f2.8, aperture 1/60. Shot in late afternoon slightly overcast sky. Tripod. The bloom center in the orignal file looks sharp sharp sharp, this doesn't really.

PS used to crop (slightly) boost the saturation and contrast (slightly) and add a 1-pixel border.

I like this angle. It was made for this flower. It's got everything...form, lines, color, rhythm.

Thanks for the kind remarks about this image. Kim, your suggestion about more foreground DOF is on target, although this way is OK for me too. I will try to shoot it with more DOF if the bloom is still there.

Jim, thanks for the helpful ideas about PS and resizing. After viewing on a different monitor, I see that the 'jaggies' are gone. It must be a resolution problem with my laptop rather than a resizing issue.

Again, thanks for the feedback. I hope to take more photos from this garden!

OMG the detail is amazing in this image! And you say that the original looks sharper? I think even in this media the middle of the flower looks tack sharp.
Excellent background blur with the pink repeating in the greenery. Perhaps just a touch more foreground DOf to make those two front petals a bit more in focus... but I'm not sure... still on the fence.

Mary Sue, I like the softness, the out of focus parts of the flower.
I also like how the colour jumps out at you.
Great shot.

I love the bright colors and the contrast in this shot. It is very simple in content, but difficult to take as well as you did. Good work.

beautiful colors. Nice presentation. if you are losing sharpness when resizing for the web, try doing it in several steps if you aren't already. otherwise a 6 meg camera gives you a 3000 pixel plus on one side, if you go all the way to 800 for UF you will lose detail. hope this helps
