About Photographed this evening at the harbour. Same ships I photographed 3 or 4 months ago, but lost all the original files. However, tonight the sky was not the same, so I still did not get what I was really looking for.

What do you think of black and white for this one? Couldn't make up my mind...

I took this just before the sun dropped down, it lit the lantern beautifully! :)

Great perspective, I like this in color with the soft hues and glow from the light. Nice detail on the rigging.

I think you got the light lit in the lantern. A great composition with the masts in the background. It could work in Black and white but this is very monochrome as is. Don.

Thanks Sony,

As we 'speak' I have another one (same subject, but better position I think) open in PS and am trying to come up with just the right 'receipe' for a sepia one. I did try the black and white, didn't like it at all!

Again, happy traveling!
Where are you going?
Lori ;)

Hi Lori, I thought I remembered this one... Had to scroll way back down on the second page in your portfolio to see the first ones, and yeah, they do differ quite a lot.

Whereas the cool blue tone of the sky / clouds was predominant in the previous two, This one has a much warmer, peachy tone. Definately quite different, but none the less very nice. Can't say I do have a specific favourite here. Both are very good.

I don't think B&W would do this one any good. Mainly because that would be a rather obvious choice, and way too conform expectations as far as I'm concerned. Besides, the tone in this one already adds quite alot of atmosphere, and I dont think B&W could increase that in this case. Furthermore, I don't think a B&W conversion would add anything.

Very good shot, well balanced and well composed. Just the way I like it!

Cheers,

hugo

Hi Lori, I took the liberty to edit it in Black and White, but I think it will loose the strength. Perhaps if you process it in sepia (but I'm still out of town and far away from my PS :( ). But still the effect of the sunset is so great. I love the way it reflected on the beam above the light (I don't know the name.... never been sailing, well a bit afraid of large water actually). Amazing photo Lori...

Excellent composition and great "positioning" of the sun behind the lantern in order to smooth its strong lighting and to create a very interesting effect. Congrats!

Lori, this is an excellent shot!!!!
Glad you went back and got this again.
Colour deffinetly works here, b&w would not do this scene justice, you made the right choice.
Thank you for your comments on my work, it means alot to me.

Excellent, moody work Lori! You know, the "artistic" ones are mainly black and white, so why not give it a try? ;-)

Hi Lori, this is excellent. It reminds me of stories like "Treasure Island" etc. The sun lighting the lamp is really special, so much so that i can't imagine it in B&W, but maybe i'm mistaken. I love it the way it is :)
Thanks for all your recents comment, i'm desperately trying to catch up on mine :)
Best wishes from Switzerland
Neil
