Dennis (Couvillion), I kind of agree with Dennis (Ward), but the loss of shadow deail does not bother me as much as that hot hightlight very near the subject's head.
This is a cracking candid in any case, and I prefer to concentrate on what you have achieved and communicated. The man relaxing in his shop, reading the papers. The open door invites us to come in and look into his world.
You have used the door frame to great effect here. Looks like it was cropped on the sides. I wonder what it is you took out and whether it really detracts from the picture.

dennis, thanks for the comments. i agree with your remarks concerning the highlights and shadows. i'll have to play around with it when i print it. thanks again

dennis, this is a nice image - kind of walker evans-ish. my only concern with it is that the highlights seem a little hot and the darker values, especially his shoes, have lost detail. high contrast. i wonder if a short "flash" would help pull the tones together. anyway, nice image, nice portfolio. dennis
