I rather agree with David Vorland's comment about having cut off too much of the head, but that doesn't detract from the eyes and the wonderful smile. You still manage to create a vivid sense of life and character - as you do in the other shots where you use a child subject.

David. The art in photography is not about following old rules, but creating new ones for others to appreciate.
In this case I think you have to appreciate what the artist wanted to express with her photo and not look for a technical point of view, but instead enjoy this sweet, happy moment she, so spontaneously recorded...
This photo has a subject. Just one. And all the attention must be on it... I, in this case, think the background would just be a distraction from it and the crop is perfect.

Lovely image. I generally don't pay much attention to the "rule" about not cropping off the top of heads ... but here, I think, it is excessive and detracts from an otherwise wonderful image. Just my opinion; others may disagree.
