About Dan Lightner Photography
For those who are following the story , So many wanted me to continue the story so here goes. The babies are flying now and eating on their own. They still ask for food but I have been bringing them live food and letting them find it themselves, Then stalk it and kill it.
They are getting quite good at it. As far as flying I didnt have to teach them they first started jumping and flapping and progressed from there.

Top Notch shot, Dan, Perfect in all but one aspects. Congratulations on Staffs Choice! Outstanding composition and a perfect surrounding and DOF. Very impressive shot!

To do some nitpicking, I think a small level tweak, to remove the white wash form the birds' head and the bright petals on the right would balance the tonal range a tad more and then, this shot would be perfect....;o)

Cheers,

Hugo

I am so disappointed Dan .... I so much wanted to see the photo of you teaching them to fly with your arms flapping up and down ;-) Dan, this has been a remarkable series and it has been super to follow - I see the staff choice above this photo and that is just dessert for all your hard work and efforts my friend :-)

Very nice picture, you used a 50mm lens , the bird was not afraid because you have to be closed to him to get a nice picture like that. Maybe the bird was on drugs! :) :) :)
You are a very good photographer (for all your pictures!)

This photo can stand for the whole story. By the way, what bird is it?
Isn't it time you also got a ring-flash?

Fantastic shot Dan. The subject is perfect and the location with the flowers really makes this photo stand out for me. Nice story to read as well - reminds me of the bird that fell out of it's nest in my backyard into my care when I was a kid.

Dear Dan
A 7+++++++ from me ...not only for the (as usual) stunning image of your baby bird, but also for the progress you have made, saving these little ones. I have been thinking of them often and obviously I am very pleased to hear that they have been thriving.

I also read Armando's advice, and agree wholeheartedly with it. Hopefully they will still perceive your garden as a safe haven.

Thank you once again for including all of us in their saga - you can be very proud of yourself for the role you (and your family) played in saving these little ones.

(((HUGS)))

ARMANDO ALCÁZAR ARMANDO ALCÁZAR   {K:42404} 5/21/2004
Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Dan: The picture is excellent and I don't have none criticize for it. With reference to your stepchildren and your friends' of Usefilm godchildren, I can tell you for what you narrate that you are making an excellent work as mother substitute, it is very well that you put them alive food so that they look for it by themself, because that will prepare them for the real life. There is a final part that you will have to make if you want that they are not in danger when coming closer to the humans, I have experience in that because I have returned to the nature several breedings of birds of prey. This can break your heart, but when they can already be worth by themselves you will teach them to fear the humans, frightening them with branches every time that they are brought near you, or requesting to your friends that make it when they come closer to them, this should be made until they have distrust and don't come closer to people, although it sounds hard it is necessary for their own welfare, because nobody knows to what kind of person they will come closer.
