to all: thank you so much for your comments. i'm very glad you enjoyed it. i was afraid i had overdone the saturation but i really wanted to show the sedimentary layers.

to hugo: thanks! i'm a bit of an amateur geologist and tend to shot a lot of this stuff.

to hugo & bobby: as to the lighting, we fully intended to wait for sunset and capture this and the dunes with better angled and colored light. unfortunately the biggest rainstorm in death valley for the past year was bearing down on us fast. the road back is a bit treacherous and we decided to shot what we could and exit asap. maybe next time ;^)

take care,
tom

Oh, Yeah! I always pay attention to geological formations when travelling. They tell so much about the history of a landscape! The iron ore veins show beautifully. Might even be some copper in there too....;o)

Very well composed, Tom! As to the lighting, you might have chosen a diffent time, where the light would be more parallel to the rock formation, creating a bit more levels / depth in this photo by using shadows. They do show in the top blue line, but a few more shadow streaks would amplify that effect. Very interesting shot!

Cheers,

Hugo
