About This is the second member of a pair, taken in the same dark and gloomy room, as the next photo of bamboo objects. I could hardly see to focus, so this photo has come out astonishingly well.

Don't be so hard on yourself, Antonella. If you mean one of those old semi-folding types with the very long release plunger, they could fool anyone. You need the instruction manual! My Voigtlanders (and their lenses) are the modern Japanese ones made by Cosina, using the V-name under licence. They are VERY simple to operate--even a donkey like ME can do it.

Thanks for your concern, Debra. I'll probably post three shots today (Saturday), but work has been terribly demanding, one crisis after another, many meetings and a heavy load of ordinary everyday work to cope with too. Photography had to take the back seat, I'm afraid. I haven't even been able to look at friends' photos for the last few days. BUT my son has bought be a new camera (described in my personal intro) and that will surely get me out and about again once it arrives next week.

You really get the best out of this lens/film combo ! Nice colours, the lamp is a bit disturbing, I'd try to get rid of it :-)

I am so glad you put this up, as it shows how dim that room really was!

Williams San,
Very clear and nice sharpness !!!
Here is another shot, you were just about to take.
If you look at the right upper side, you can see a fluorescent light. I think that made shadows. But, it is insignificant !!!
Regards,
Koichi

They (the shadowy areas) are from what light DID filter into the room from outside, Rob. I can really hardly believe this quality myself, and Matsukawa San who was with me seems equally amazed. There was no flash. I did correct white balance, of course, to get the white plaster the right "colour."

Considering the circumstances you achieved a very high quality and I wonder how. I see also shadows, are those by a flash light or from the scarce light fall? Rob.

Hugo, the crop was difficult on this one as I didn't take it level. I had to rotate it and correct leaning verticals (you can see some of the jaggies if you look carefully). I couldn't make it perfectly straight, as the minimum angle for one of the compensations I needed was 3 degrees, although about half that would have been enough. So this is as close as I could get to "square." I actually had a bit more of the green thing on the extreme left in the original shot but lost some of it in cropping away the effects of perspective corrections. I left it there to balance the red thing on the right. To that extent, I think it serves a useful purpose. Despite my dissatisfaction with this shot, for the very reasons you mention, I am so amazed at the colours and renderings that I just have to have it in my portfolio to remind myself sometimes things can go undeserverdly well.

Hi Roger, I love the detais, and the combination of "earthy" colours. Lots of textures and items to look at.

As to the composition, I somewhat feel its a bit unbalanced. The wooden frame could've framed the photo perfectly if you'd centered it a bit more. The alignment to the (2D) subject is not quite perpendicular, but also not deliberately at an angle. I also wonder about the lamp in the top right corner. Cropping it off would remove part of the "in-photo" framing there is, but would maybe balance the composition a bit more.... Hard to be conclusive on this one.

Cheers,

Hugo

PS: I liked your comment on Roger T.'s photo: "Hateful". Very appropriate....;o) The Top Notch quality of his shot sure make me jealous....;o)
