About I found this delightful statue in our local park. There are several rather fine statues in the park.

I don't see the bright area on the right as a major problem. If found to be distracting, it could be either burned in, or cropped away, or a combination of both.

The branch above her head, on the other hand, does bother me. In principle, it is good that she is framed from above, it's just that I find it a little too tight. Unfortunately I don't see how this could be remedied, short of sawing off the branch or bringing along a ladder for a higher vantage point.

The tonality looks nice, obviously I haven't seen the colour image but I can't really imagine it being better than this BW version.

This is a really delightful statue indeed, I love it's natural look. And you caught it well against the light. A bit disturbing is the blown out area right of her head , between tree and edge. I have no idea what could be done to solve the problem ?

Debra, it just doesn't work in colour. The bright area on the right is pale spring green, there are deeper greens, earth colours, and this monochrome statue in the middle. It was only by making it all monochrome that I could give the statue her proper weight. I didn't even keep the colour scan "for the future." It's gone... otherwise I would have posted it here for you to see.

I think this is a lovely statue but maybe color would enhance it a bit.... I like that you tried in b/w but for some reason its too much of the same color.... perhaps to see in color would be nice too...beautiful non the less..

A good study, Roger ~ a difficult spot to get the perfect exposure.
Kind regards, Chris

She looks very European. Nice tones again, yes the brightness on the side. But then again, as amateurs we are not in the position to redo many shots. We got to live with compromises. The statue is great and that is what it is all about. Rob.

I wondered about that bright area, John. I thought I might get away with it as balancing the dark area on the left. Not sure I could find my way back to her to try again... I have a dreadful sense of direction and it's a VERY big park. It'll be a while anyway, as we're doing the rounds of the parks and there are quite a few others to go to before we start repeating.

Hi Roger - Could this be reshot at a different time of the day? What I would be looking for is to tone down all that brightness on the right. The framing with the tree on the right and the small limb over her head is interesting!
Cheers JB
