Very colorful image with a nice perspective. It gives a good impression of the shop and how different it is from ours... Quite busy shot, but that's how it is :)
You asked a question about the frame; to be honest, I don't like this one very much... The colour of it does not seem to match any colour in the image. In fact, I think it is better without a frame, the shelves already make a natural frame. Personally, I only use a frame if is really necessary, for example if the composition contains a relatively large empty area (especially a light coloured one). But that is not the case in your image. If I were forced to choose a frame colour, I would probably choose black here.

I won't even comment on the technical side of this since it seems to have reams written on it...I will only say that the brassy light and over busy feel of this compliments the subject wonderfully...especially if one thinks of shopekeepers as salesmen...
although, it is hard to tell but it seems his expression is more concerned than anything - and almost as if he wonders what that crazy Dutchman with the camera is doing... ;)

Ik heb het de laatste tijd nogal druk 's avonds dus het comments geven schiet er nog al eens bij in. Als ik zo naar je portfolio kijk, heb ik weer een mooie serie gemist! Maar ik ben vast besloten deze serie te volgen!
Deze winkel is echt heel anders dan je die in Amsterdam ziet, het ziet er huisselijk en minder 'schoon' uit. Krap gangpaatje, het is één richtings verkeer met je winkel karretje, als ze die hebben! De kleuren zijn op sommige producten een beetje overbelicht, maar dit is niet vreemd met zo'n licht als daar achter! Verder ben ik zeeeeer te spreken over dit frame, heel mooi in mekaar gezet! De kleur past goed bij de soberheid van de winkel en het zwarte lijntje in het midden voegt echt iets toe! Mijn complimenten!

the picture is so colourful, amazing how they use the space up to the
last centimeter, and your photo gives the feeling of tightness...
but, but, sorry the frame really doesn't fit, at least in my very personal view...
the frame is a kind of opposite to the motive itself, agree with Stefan
who said:
in a way it is framed by the shelves

Somehow I believe that this must be a pretty difficult photo Hugo. I believe that because of the lamp! It looks very strong one and as a sorse of strong light it can change the camera's focal area on it so .....normaly the objects could be strongly out of focus however not strong problems here! .....even at the longest distance! Ok, perchaps the sharpen tool can fix more the clarity on this however it is a good try for a high difficulty shot! Bye!

As you mentioned above your setting logically correct, the only ISO is un known, and tripod not used which is essential?. In urban setting, coverging verticals are a constant challenge-whether to use them? easiest option?, ignore them "seldom advisable?, or correct them? requiring expensive equipment", That`s it, no comment on the quality of image it self now. regarding frame to be used I SAY YES and should be accommodate the image, not any frame, when it is new, tendency of the human to not except it, now most of the university is part of the program, tommorw will be must, if the image to be expose as competition they now except frames along with original clean, it is up to the individual photographer to use it or not?Thanks

Hi Hugo,
The perspective and DOF really shows the narrowness of the store, I like how you displayed that in the photo.
The exposure is excellent and balanced, it shows a lot of color without "blowing" them.
The border is better than the borders you used before, simply because its not a gradient. When I use borders, I like to keep it simple and see how a white or a black border looks depending on the mood of the photo.

I was many times in a shop like this, but never have done a photo like You have. Unfortunately the limit of the size here doesnt allow all details of Your original where surely they are.

It is a little crowded shot, but it should be the idea anyway depends on the way you are looking at it. The focus is the shoppers or goods on the shelves, or how they usually keep their stores? It looks like everything here, and it makes this shot special to me.

hugo, wow. you got this freehand, huh? this came out great! looks like 2 light bulbs (probably low wattage) and you still managed to get no movement, great colors and dof. i also tend to shoot freehand indoors w/out flash quite a bit but with digital. but this usually causes me what i always thought were white balance problems. or is it an ISO issue? since i shoot digital i tend to forget about the ISO setting and end up shooting everything in 200. i guess i have some experiments to do.
re: frames - i have rarely seen "digital" frames that help or even do justice to an image, IMHO. the simple "shadow" without an edge seems to work for me most often as it simply offsets the image from the background but does not intrude, add, or detract from the image. to be honest, i didn't notice you used frames until a few days ago. i think my brain filters them out ;^)
also, i left you a comment and a variation under my stone faces picture. the transfer made it VERY low-res and faded it a bit but let me know what you think comp-wise.

Excellent as always! Everything works...Angle, framing, exposure, color, depth. A great as I call them real life shot. Perfectly Done.
I've had my F100's about a year and have been completely pleased. I use the ev occasionally. I use a hand held meter when possible and when using chrome I bracket. The auto bracket function on the F100 is Awesome. I'm afraid that I haven't done a multi-exposure in years so I'm not much help there. In regards to our last conversation, another photographer let me know that there are about 10 new digital cameras coming out in a month that range from 6 to 54 mp. So I'll plan on having a look when the time comes.

Hugo, the frame is not as important as it is the picture, but sometimes are a must. I like this photo in particular because is very informative. It shows how the store is arrange, the variety of products and the diferent packages. Now the colors are great, the DOF is very very good. The composition is great vertical & horizontal. We can see hight and depth nicely and human factor is ver good.

Een drukke, gezellige scene. Ik vraag me af of het grijze frame complimenteerd (dat is toch de bedoeling bij presenteren) maar de enige sugestie die ik zou doen is zwart. Het werkt meestal als je kleuren vanuit de foto pakt. Fotografisch gezien is het een lastig geval, de donkere personen door de kleding en de lichte omgeving. Zoals gezegd heb je de ambiance gepakt en niet de personen, een goede keuze als je naar de omstandigheden kijkt.

My feeling about frames is that I am looking at image, not the frame. Of course, when exhibiting prints you need to consider that. Even then, a lot of spaces just want to see the standard black aluminum section frame. Meanwhile, back to the item at hand, I like to see PJ type pictures done with handheld cameras in ambient light. The colors are good for high speed neg film and the 50 gives a natural perspective. You've captured the ambiance.

A very interesting shot Hugo just using the ambient light in the shop and we have some reflected light in the faces.The frame looks fine to me. Frames seem to be a fairly new thing and more prevalent on a monitor than club photography.
