About The demonstrations in Esfahan, on the same square that has been described in previous posts stands in sharp contrast with the friendliness of the Iranian People and the awesome beauty of the country. The newscasts in the west provide quite a biased image on the political views expressed during these demonstrations in the so called "Axis of Evil", as they only show the fundamentalistic and frankly freighting anti-western uproars. If my sources are correct, only a minority (approx 10%!) of the people supports the strict Islamitic laws and government style. Someone even told me, that the majority of the people present at the gathering to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 11 february 2004 are paid by the government to attend. Nonetheless, the atmosphere during the demonstration was very anti-western, and the rage of the people turned specifically against the Israeli and American government and influences / presence in the east. The green banner in the center says "Emam Hussein", and a free translation of the yellow banner would be: Down with the USA, Iran has many soldiers, ready to withstand American agression, followed by bases in the vincinity of Esfahan. If there's anyone on UseFilm who can translate this more precisely, I'd appreciate it...

Dear Reza...... this is a comment I wrote log, long ago and you misunderstood it. I didn't say that I thought it was a national holiday. I said that my first impression was that it was a national holiday cause I saw the balloons and the bright colours of the flags. I also added more. Yes, I read what is written on the yellow banner. Thanks for replying

Came across this image of yours...excellent image... you captured the scene well.. great colors, dynamic composition. I agree with you about the people...I have known many Iranians and Syrians etc who are good friends. Too bad that the common people don't really run the countries of the world..(even in the west). Unfortunately, I think demonstations like this will begin to become more common as recent decisions and statements by their government clash with the west... Oh, I forgot to tell you that I saw your entry and selection in IPA last year...great work. Two of my submissions were selected but only as Honorable Mentions..

Thanks for filling in such an extensive 'About' - more members should do it like that.
Without your explanation, the balloon seller would be a strange dissonant :)

This is great "street" expression you realy live with your image ..great..cronaca yes..but we should limit our self to see it as an art image ..I do not think "Thomas",that Hugo want to tide this image with politacal sence..thank you Hugo for those series it should be very guided for new professional "jornalist" photgrapher..great job

From the thumbnail I thought this was a photo taken during a national holiday when people generally come together to celebrate (that's cause I saw the ballons and the bright colours of the flags). I didn't quite understand the title (Political uproar??) until I realized that this shot was taken in Iran and until I read the interesting piece of information you added here. Unfortunately I don't know Iranian so, I can't translate what's on the yellow banner, but I have seen similar pics before and from what the banners say in English, it is quite clear that fundamentalists do not fail to demonstrate their anti-americanism and anti-western inclination in occasions like this one. However, like you have heard there and like many others know, the majority of Iranians does not share the same views. This photo is very interesting cause it shows once again how a bunch of fundamentalists (probably)still believes that with such demonstrations they can fool the rest of the world.
Beautiful documentary photo with, for me, a frightening atmosphere
Excellent work, Hugo!

osservo che il tuo è solo cronaca senza posizioni e il tuo scatto è colore in una immagine di politica

Thanks for your comment. I think I have to make myself clear. Maybe the title is wrong, but don't get ME wrong, I'm not trying to make a political statement with this photo. On the contrary... We happened to be there, and it's definately not what it seems to be; very unreal. I'll be posting the second and third photo later, with more info.

I understand this photo can evoke negative sentiments. It did with me, at first. Quite freigtning. But once we got used to the happening, I found out, that pictures on TV are quite different if you experience them in real life.

Cheers,

Hugo
