Hey Tim - I know the feeling as titled here. I'm in the same situation and its snowing this morning. This is a fine shot with great light. Very appealing and your framing really sets this off. BTW - thanks for commenting on my Ghost Birch. Much appreciated.

Regards and great shooting - Bill

Tim, this is a beauty. I like the looks of the unspoiled snow.

Are we all looking for the perfection in photography?? change the blue!!! no ..no...no change the wire!!! etc etc etc.... we can go on and on and on...but the important thing is lets look and see what Tim has done here. He has used the rule of thirds to capture the tractor and the wind mill. Even though the horizon is sitting right smack dead in the middle the eye is drawn more towards the closest image and that is the tractor. The shadow of snow in the forground is another factor in making the tractor a main character here because it has some of the brightest highlights of the entire photo. It hard to tell here but the shadow area of the tractor has no detail ( wish I could see the original image.) The mood is cold as it should be...the gray of a winter sky and the mood of an early morning and there are some really nice specular highlights in the snow. I feel this is actually the way the image was when Tim photograhed it...cold and blue.
I don't think I would change anything in this photograph. Tim you have good composition here with a nice perspective view. The image is clear and to the point of what you were trying to capture. Stand up and take a bow...you deserve it!!!!

Aha, I might have guessed - a midwesterner...(upper midwest based on the deepness of the snow)...

this is an excellent rural landscape...I like the blue tones as there is something of a mood there...I would guess this is either at dawn or twighlight which would account for the bluish tones and the hard angle of light...

as far as the snow goes - it might be not as crisply white as some may like but I do like that you have good detail through the image (especially in the white field area between the tractor and the windmill...

Thanks for the suggestion, Sunset (may I call you that?). I too like the image in BW, but there was so much blue that morning that I chose to keep some in the tone. Perhaps too much. I also kind of like the branches on the left, keeping the image from being too squeaky clean. As I mentioned to Robin, the upload degradation here changed an integral element in the shot for me, a crisp wire line to the windmill, into a mess. I wish you all could see a clean post but I haven't figured out how to overcome what seem to be system issues. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you all for looking and for your comments!
Tim

The attached is per Robin without the tree branches removed on the far left border because I didn't think that part was really necessary at all! What does everyone think?

Tim,
Beautiful composition. You have some very nice work in your portfolio.

Critique is usually only what you see in hindsight so if you thought of this already please disregard. Suggestions without having been there are hard to do. The snow is a little on the grey side. That may have been the lighting that you had to work with. Snow is hard to meter throught the lense. Some cameras do it better than others. Camera meters like to think that the world is a 18% gray card for metering so when it meters snow, it likes to make it grey also. Depending on a few variables You need to open 1/2 to 2 stops to get a better exposure. I would remove the wire leading up to the windmill and the tree limbs that are floating on the left hand side of the frame.

Again a beautiful scene. Great composition. The grey overcast sky does have a way of setting the tone of the image. Great work.

Hi Tim, I'm awed by the beautiful tones in this photo. Stunning! A beautiful composition, I like the symplicity of it, as well as the contrast and details in the snow. You've captured the atmosphere of abandonment excellently. A bloody brilliant use of B&W. It would do great as a hugely blown up poster, nicely framed and all. Got just the right spot for it....:) Outstanding quality!

Cheers,

Hugo

["Still Waiting" ... but you weren't hibernating] and [I'm a Poet and Didn't Know it!]

Great simplistic catch almost looking a bit silvery but a great monotone with a perfect comp!

Thanks for sharing and Best of Regards!
