Zoe, I visited your site to reply but couldn't find a "mail to" so I'm replying here. Yes, it's a bit cluttered, but I was so attracted by the light that I took it anyway! The location is Kokubunji, a suburb on the western outskirts of Tokyo, where there are still some pockets of agricultural Japan left about the new housing.

the handle you have with your black and white points is remarkable. such beautiful lighting and tones. i'm only bothered by the composition. without your "title" i would not know what the focus of the photograph is as the grounds are a bit cluttered, obviously not your doing... but the direction is a bit unclear. it does look like a lovely spot to sit though.
where is this?
i hope my remarks help, if not... ignore.

Roger, these 'windows' on what appear to be semi rural Japan are facinating. For all we know they could be alongside the biggest Honda factory in the world.
I particularly like this, its really well composed, and as John said, leads the eye into the gate and down the path. The strongest element in my eye is the tree, with that backlighting cought just perfectly.

Keith

I especially like the balance of the shot. The strong tree in a third of the frame and the "imaginary" lines leading from the lower left and right corners that take you down the path. As you and I have already discussed, the shot needs to be larger than 640 pixels to be appreciated. The sharpness too looks perfect. Well done.
