Hey nice job! The shadow is really effective (but I'd like to say that, in my opinion, there was nothing wrong with the slight shadow of the last photo - it's just nice to have different options/expressions). I feel you could have used a greater depth of field though, to bring the edges of the wings into focus.

Have you tried converting this one to black and white to see what it looks like? How about an even longer shadow?

I really like your result here. The exposure is perfect . . . but where are you finding all of these dead butterflies and moths?!?!

Roderick!!! This is it! Very well done! This gives that eerie feeling that I think you were trying to get across before.. the composition is PERFECT, and the shadow gives it the "fallen angel" type of feel. EXCELLENT! Congrats on a very successful shot. : )
