'Lucky' because he walked within 5 meters of me and decided not to kill me! I had stopped the car along the road to photograph another animal when this fellow came up out of the woods right next to me. Eventually he walked within 30 cm of my back bumper as he crossed the road. Elk are not predictable and they do attack many people every year.

Good photo. Nice and steady for hand held out a car window. I know how hard getting a shot like that can be. On a trip to Alaska last year we saw a moose and her calf along side the road, but by the time we stopped and got the camera out all we got was a picture of her backside as they wandered back into the woods. But why Lucky? Hunting season isnt over yet! :-)
