Not sure to respond to comments yet, signed up last week. To answer your question; my beam photo was originally in color, high resolution on a tripod. At home I cropped the picture, sharpened it, and than turned it into greyscale (Photoshop Elements 2.0). The snow was indeed powderfine originally.
