Forgot to mention . . . this was taken at the elementary school here. He's our youngest who is starting his Sophmore year in high school this year!
Four down . . . dunh dunh DUNHHHHHH . . . and one to go . . . ! Yeeeeee HAW!
(in case the children should happen to read this . . . each was a pleasure to raise and we are filled with a morose and seemingly unendurable pain at their having moved on....That's my story and I'm sticking to it!) Perhaps alcohol and two tickets to Tahiti will help to ease the pain! :P

Wow Michele . . . Waaaaaaay back in time. This was posted 2003 when my son graduated 6th grade! Very new . . . inexperienced and lucky to have learned composition doing oil paintings (turns out to be very similar compositional rules) . . . I tried a few "special Effects" but they are not very popular at UF. I washed out the edge to give it an older look and you can see it's a tinted, though not sepia toned B&W. I keep these up because I like them and they remind me what I knew then . . . AND - I just learned some new things today! Like gradient masking!!
:)

WoW !!! Now I am spooked out since I thought maybe this was a picture of YOU at first , then a son, or definite family member. I just read it is your son !

I like black + white , featuring the speaker with color.
Very nice Doyle. I wonder where it was taken tho ? It does look a bit like it could be a picture of a picture maybe ? Many questions , ha !

Steve:
An interesting idea from a respected photographer. Still, the thought I had was that he really was NOT connected to his classmates. Often (even when older), there seems to be a feeling of disconnect between public speakers and their audiences . . . even a sense of being disconnected from yourself. I think I'll experiment with your suggestion though. Thanks!

Thanks . . . this is a graduation. My thought was exactly as you mentioned . . . nostalgia and a dreamy ambience. The 6th grader it really brought out was my son. I love this shot!

It's a nice idea, Doyle. I think maybe the valedictorian stands out a bit too much. There's something of the feel of a collage here with the boy not really seeming connected to his classmates. Maybe grade the intensity of colors outwardly from the boy.

Wow... I can feel the ambience of the scene, a student making a speech probably during parents meeting session. The editing really brought out the 6th grader, the colours and style of the edges somehow makes the picture look a bit dreamy to me, quite nostalgic!
