Roy...

This is works because of the delicate light and subtle colors. The DOF helps with the center of the image a focal point.

Its possible to overthink these things, the image stands out because of the great light, color interplay, and dof - specifically the way you used the DOF, not just shallow but very selective, imo having the entire foreground in focus with the BG out is merely a simplistic cookiecutter method to going at a situation such as this, its very possible someone might like the image that way, but its equally likely they're more interested in seeing your images fall into line with other similar shots they've seen~

Request for input -- Do you agree with this guy. There are actually two issues at play - motion blur and shallow DOF on the foreground subject.

Over at PSig:

There are 2 areas of focus on the same subject - the foreground blurred and then coming to focus. And the out of focus mass of flowers seems to be occuping more image volume. Would have made it better to have the entire mass of flowers in focus and just have the orange flowers in the background blurred. The stalks of some flowers on the left and the tips of those on the right get cut...could have either tightened the frame or widened it to include them.

so dream-like:)

it's great! i like how my eye is lead to the top flower because of the focusing.
