Haven't seen the original version yet but if you were trying to show the difference you did. The cracking wall overpowers the pipe in the photo on the left. The photo on the right brings back the focus point.

But here's the kicker. The two photos side by side work well, even with the cracked wall. It brings the pipe back in as the main focus without any overpowering. Kind of like you are telling your viewer "the pipe, dummy, the pipe." I like it
