About I went whale watching with Chris in Bermuda in his (comparatively small) boat. We had stopped at Challenger Bank (about 15 miles SW offshore) to listen to their "song" on the hydrophone when this one suddenly reared up behind us – I think he wanted to check out who was making wale sounds on board !

You can get an idea of the scale by noting the level of the horizon – that's the height of me standing up in the back of the boat, so the top of the whale was over 3 times higher.
