I haven't heard from Johnny since I told him I had a longhorn steer for him that I promised on Photosig and I e-mailed him and he said he would look but he was busy. Nice image and capture. Just go in layers I usually use three copied background layers. I unmasked sharp the one in the middle blurred the top one and erase with 100 percent on the subject and get close to the edge of the subject and finish off the edges with 50 percent.

Well Done, IMO the background is so natural and does not detract at all. In some cases where the background is out of character, such as a zoo setting, a blurred background may be preferable, but I think this is perfect! With the supurb colors of this bird, it stands out without help!

Bill, I agree that a totally blurred background is alway better but in this case I believe it's not all bad. I think because of the even lines created by the reeds, it doesn't distract all that bad. I would suggest, I know you can't reshoot this, but a lower camera angle would have made a better presentation. I find with birds, if you can get eye level it alway works better.

Excellent color! I also like the color/focus of the surrounding grass, but it would be interesting to see a comparison with a semi-blurred background. Nice.
