The Valley of Mindo is known to birdwatchers around the world. And 'in fact located within the EBA (Endemic Bird Area) of Chocó and IBA (Interesting Bird Area) Mind-Nambillo, the first IBA was established in 1997 by BirdLife International in South America. More than 50 species of endemic birds that can be observed and photographed more than 500 total species of birds in the area. Every year during the counting of species is made in more than 2,000 IBAs in the world, Mindo is among the first places as the number of species. Reserva Ecologica Pachijal is located inside the Chocó EBA IBA and also the Mindo-Nambillo, namely that it is within a forest transition between the low mountain forest Nebula and tropical forests, and so it is possible to observe natural environments of the two species living within the Reserve
