Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris Sumatrae) are found only in the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Their current population is estimated to be between 400 to 500, most of which living in the forests of Sumatran national parks. Forest conversion, habitat fragmentation and conflict with human are the biggest threat to Suamtran tigers today. As many as 66 tigers had been killed between the years 1998 to 2000.
