Great panning Dave,lovely effects.
May I suggest you shoot at a smaller aperture in Aperture Priority mode for better definition even it means pushing your ISO.

The light is so special on the bird, Dave! It stands out very powerfully against the blue background, just as if it were under a spotlight. The great difference in focus enhances further its importance on the image. The details on it are well visible and not exagerrated at all. They provide a great contrast against the shapes on the surface of the water, which by the way adds very good tension to the image. Some could say that the bird is a but overexpose in some places, but I think that in this case it is that strong light on it, that makes the image so interesting.
