Well, as I already saif, Andre, exactly this seems to be one of your very very personal "ingredients of a good recipe for an image". Your shots are not just "for now". One has to re-visit them and each visit adds something to the already won impression. It is much like singing some song for the 150th time and it gets better and better... This is what I think of your images.
Cheers!
Nick
P.S.: Much like 747- strangers in the night by Saxon. I din't know how many times I played that with the guys, but each time we sung the refrain it was really kiddnapping us all in its charm.

Thanks very much for all the great encouragement Nick! I especially thank you for the comment about the "wow" factor and the substance allowing an image to "grow" on the viewer. I know those are two things that judges and viewers in general consider to be important in photography. Initial impact is important, but staying power may be even more important. Thanks again. Andre

I guess you should really really submit it, Andre. And I wish you all possible good luck. From what I see of your work on nature and wild life, I don't think that your images have anything less than most of those which get awarded.
I think I already said that to you and also to Dave, you guys seem to have taken a further step into photography of nature than simply getting "correctly exposed images". Of course in order to get that accomplished there has to be also a deeper connection, relation to the subject itself, and I think that you have that.
So, as you also get more and more skils as the time passes by, perhaps your maturity already far exceeds the usual photography of nature. At least for me, as somebody who doesn't really have any kind of closer connection to this subject, your images win more and more substance and quality. It as substance that doesn't only cause a temporary "wow" but rather lets the image grow on me. Perhaps you are already on such levels that would allow at least a semi-professional kind of "job", Andre, with all the good possibilities for the times coming? Not to say that yoz should throw your prifession aside immediately, but just as a "bagie thought" abiut what could be possible for you with such good nature images... I really wonder, that is.
Cheers!
Nick

Thanks for the great review on this one Nick. I was very pleased at the way this one came out. No results on the contest yet. But they have many great shots to choose from. I will be putting this in another contest along with a few others for "Outdoor Photography Canada" Andre

Well, the loon may be as common as it wants, Andre, but the image of the loon is anything else than "common"! You have such a good exposure here with finest details but of the kind that never looks like pixel islands dancing on the surface of the image! Your DoF was exactly... exact! Even the drops of water exhibit their natural behavior as a kind of magnifying loops if one looks a bit closer.
The exposure balance worked like a charm here. The gradients convert the image to a real 3D object that one thinks to be able to grasp with the own hands. I have to mention the tip on the i here - just look at its eye. Not only the reflection is captured without any problems, but it is part of a the gradient that makes it look not simply round but spherical.
I know that it will be one of the very best at the contest. Keep us informed please about the results. (So that I can intervene in case they have some other opinion. ;-))
Great image!
Nick

Thanks Dave, I got quite a few nice Loon images last week too. Also an immature Bald Eagle has moved into the area. I'll post some more soon. I have been having trouble logging on to this site lately for some reason. Have you found it doesn't connect all the time now? If not, maybe it's just my server. Andre

Thanks Ray, The eye, feather details and water droplets won me over on this one. I will get an image of my kayak setup later on in the week and attach it to this thread. It's a bit risky. and some might say stupid. :) But, as I said in a conversation with Nick in another thread, I believe that a lot of good images come out of risky situations. Andre

Thanks Srna, I am happy with this shot. As far as the contest goes, there are many entries, and many beautiful images. So, the chances of winning anything are very slim. Andre

Thanks Kes, It will be easier for me to take a picture of my set-up and post it as an attachment. I will be going up to try some more shots on Monday. I'll get some shots of me in the boat with the camera set up. BTW It is a monopod, not a tripod. There is no image stabilization on the Nikon 300 F4, but I use a rubber damper and keep my shutter speed up as high as I can. Funny thing is the shutter speed for this one was only 1/250. Andre

Hi Andre,
Excellent! Amazing detail, Andre! 20 feet!
I may have asked this before, but can't remember (it's not that bad), how do you get the tripod to work in the kayak? Obviously, your system works, as indicated by the photo. Image stabilization?
best regards, kes
