People from the village i was born. They have been 'cordially invited' ;-) by the German Wehrmacht to dig some nice manholes or a defense-line against the 'enemy' (... ).
Observe and see people looking depressed because it is against their will, and some people are cheerful. Some were collaberating with the Wehrmacht or member of the NSB led by Anton Mussert ( dutch pro german movement ).
I did not see familiar faces, these must have been grandpa's in my youth.
Original made by photo Oenes from Leek. I made 6 shots and used stacking/pseudo hdr for improvement.
Note: the man without spade but with a book to report who was present or instructions what to do.
In our area it was relative quiet, not like in the big cities as Amsterdam etc.
9 km away flak guns were stationed to shoot at US/UK convoy's on their way to bomb Hamburg, One allied bomber crashed near a small village called "Pasop" where my mum lived with her parents. My mum always remembers to hear the propeller driven convoys at night.
Like most farmers, we had a nice hotel for some Wehrmacht soldiers, The German headquarters had cordially invited us to supply some living area for these poor souls ( .... ). Cannot recall stories from my parents about it, I guess it was maybe even 'safe' to have them in house ( haybarn ), except for receiving a bomb from the allied forces. Guess they had their own life as our parents had.
Thanks Neel. No, not nostalgic bcs that is something to longue for. It was wartime and there have been dead/killed/executions. But I am sure you mean it is historical and I appreciate your comment. I know it comes from a golden heart.
