The black and white conversion simplifies the image and lets us concentrate on their faces and their instruments. I think the guy on the left would make a good image on his own too.

I really like the B&W conversion here. The shirts and chairs in white. The trousers and hair in black. The faces and instruments in tones of grey. And it works very well against the dark background. If I could have one niggle, it would be to wish for the feet of the guy on the right to be in the shot...
