Hi AJ, sounds like the best of two worlds. What type of work do you do? Warsaw must be fascinating as a city that is so rich in it's past. Southern Spain must be very beautiful. Have a great week. be well, Stan

Hi Stan. I grew up in Manchester and London, neither of which is noted for its friendliness. I now split my time (when I'm not travelling) between Warsaw, Poland and Tarifa, a small town at the southern tip of Spain. I like this contrast of spending part of my time in a (relatively) big city and part in a more remote location.

If European cities are that foreboding I will pass. I am spoiled in rural Montana where you sit at the gas station with 4 or 5 other locals and solve the problems of the world. When I was in New York I just noticed that speaking to others on the street was not the norm. Here in Montana I speak to almost any stranger on the street and usually get some positive response. Just part of culture shock in a major city. I find it funny how close we stayed in the same area of such a large city. I will post a few of my shots when I find the pictures. Where do you live in Europe? Be well, Stan

Many thanks JD. I agree with your comment about partial desat - I think it should be used sparingly in very specific situations...

Thanks Stan. This was also my first and only visit. And as you say, a great location. This was taken from the apartment I was staying in and the B&H photography shop is on the next corner down the road to the right! I actually found the place remarkably friendly - perhaps that says something about European cities.

Ray: I would happily put the steps to do this into a short technique article under the UF "Photo articles" if I did not have the feeling that UF was being left to die...

Nice one AJ, funny that my only visit to New York I stayed at the New Yorker. It was under some renovation at the time. It was fun to be in the middle of Manhattan and not have a clue. Coming from rural Montana to New York was quite a shock, not many greetings on the street. I love what you have done with the selective color and the overall tones of the image. As usual, another great image! Be well, Stan

I have composed a few similar compositions myself and you would not believe just how long they take me to do. Your technique to achieve your result puts me to shame. I really MUST read the photshop instruction book when I get a spare decade Cheers AJ....Ray

Many thanks, Ray. But in reality this is quick to do: I simply selected the yellow cabs and red letters on the basis of colour, put them in a separate layer and slotted an adjustment layer for the desaturation between the two.

An excellent example of selective toning my dear AJ. Bagloads of interesting detail and I am in awe of the patience in must have required in postwork to achieve this wonderful composition. Well done to you my friend. My very best wishes to you as always......Ray

Thanks for your comment, Ivona. There are lots of New Yorker shops here in Poland also, but the New Yorker in this photograph is a hotel in Mid-town.

Famous yellow cabs.. even if it's natural photo, nicely done, with this contrast of bw and yellow... tell me, what is "New Yorker" that's written on that building? We have lot of shops (clothes) in Croatia with that name...
