Location City -  Promontory Point

Country - United States   United States
About An image taken at Promontory Point, Utah (USA), the location where the two ends of the transcontinental railroad met in 1869. A later modification to the railway system around the Second World War made the location redundant. Since that time, only a few miles of track are in existence, mainly for spectators to see how it was in the Nineteenth Century. This image is a tribute to the many workers who, with such a simple act, introduced the world to modernity.

The lack of 'wheels' is intentional, especially since they have been 'scavenged.'

Muchas gracias, querido amigo!

Saludos!

Thank you very much, Hussain. I'm glad that you picked up on the clouds. I wanted them to give a dramatic touch to the image.

Cheers,

Thanks for your comments, John. I chose the sepia to try to draw out that Western feel; I'm glad that you picked up on that!

As for the ground plane, I, too, would have liked to have been able to include the caboose's wheels. But, alas, they are no more! They were scavenged some time around WWII for the iron in them! I agree that they would enhance the image's composition, however.

Thanks again,

JP

Nice shot J, thank you for the education! This piece is very informative and the photograph itself has a nice Western feel to it, with nicely contrasted skies/clouds. (I personally would like to see the ground plane included.....) -john
