Thanks Tap,
I'm glad I didn't get rid of my old lenses. :)

Hi Andre!

Manual focus is the most natural thing for me too. Its' like when I play guitar. It would be total unease to set some kind of "auto-sound" that perfectionizes what I do according to the amp's brains and the mistakes I do.

And indeed, it's very comforting to know that the good things remain good things. Such things put some kind of stable trust in our days of steady changes and changes of changes. When you have something like that then you know what you can put your trust upon, whatever kind of fashion comes and goes. It's real value for me, not simply price.

Of course it's also brilliant - and that also considering the pure technical side. Such lenses are working for decades and still they do their job perfectly, even if the media changed. I think that's the way that such things evolve to real classics. You shouldn't be surprised of your gear reaches that status some day. Or did it already?

Cheers!

Nick

Hi Nick,
It still feels natural to me when using an old manual lens. It's comforting some how to know that after all those years, something of decent quality still works as intended. Only the media has changed. Quite brilliant when you think about it.

I would only lie if I would say that I don't get blinded by the good parts of my images, Andre! It happens to me most of the time too. Oh well, that's enthusiasm, I guess!

I am sure that you will have a great fun with your old lens(es). Sad to say but many times their quality of optics is simply better, though they may also be less comfortable to use.

Thanks Nick,
I think I will have a lot more fun with Macros with that old lens.
The more I see that other "off colour" petal sneaking in on the right side, the more I think I should have been more careful and cropped it away. Oh well... sometimes I get blinded by the good parts of an image and get a little too trigger happy on the post, :) Like you say, no big deal.

Thanks Alicia,
I consider that a real compliment, coming from you, one of my favourite floral photographers here at Usefilm.

The coloring and the details of the main grouping are fascinating again, Andre! And I think that you also got the appropriate rich dark color of the background, which added such a vivid character! Some "intruders" here and there like for example the brownish part on the right edge, but it's not as problematic. Especially when the old good Vivitar brings such a high fidelity of definition everywhere on this micro-cosmos!

Thanks Bill,
I like the way the DOF turned out in this one too. I wanted to try some more with a not so narrow DOF too, but I didn't have my tripod with me and the shutter speed would have been pretty low. I can try again later. They grow like wildfire in our back yard.

Thanks Biljana,
I think the secret to these kind of shots is having some natural light in the right place.

Thanks Kes,
Yeah, I did get a bigger bag. Not too big, still I feel a bit like a mule lugging it around now. That will probably only last till the novelty of experimenting wears off. I can use the exercise anyway?

you are going to have to get a bigger camera bag to pack all your lenses around! Great light and dof here, Andre.

Thanks Dan,
I know what you mean about that bit of pink flower on the right. I may have been a little too trigger happy and possibly could have cropped it away before posting.

Nicely done, yes I know how hard these are to photograph, sill to get one with the DOF I want :-) That object on the right is a little distracting though, maybe a tighter portrait type crop would work here better?

Thanks Mervo,
I did play around with this one in Photoshop, just a little with the levels bars, but that's about all. Funny you should say that about 1/3+, because that is exactly the setting I am using with my old 50mm Nikkor lens on the D200.
This one converts nicely to B&W too. I might post one later.

Very nice capture my friend, subtle exposure and nice framing. I would have like to see this at 1/3+ but who cares, I'd have this on my wall! Lovely colours Andre!
