About Il fonte battesimale della Basilica di San Pietro, venne disegnato da Carlo Fontana da Como; la conca di porfido di cui è formato era il coperchio dell'urna funeraria di Ottone II Imperatore, la quale assieme alle sue ceneri sta nelle grotte Vaticane; Antonio Tedeschi e Marcello Pigers la ridussero al modo che si vede. Tutti gli ornati di mettallo di cui è abbellita furono gittati da Giovanni Giardini.
