Ian, this turns again reality to some kind of abstraction, or even to some kind of "a foreign reality". I think that your lighting does most of the work for that, and then the very unusual focus turns the image to some sight of a "neverland". Perhaps something like how we think that the earth looked like in prehistoric times.

As a sidenote, I guess that that unusual blue of the sky and the haze would also allow to just put the palm tree in the middle of the image and nothing more - it would be more oif a complete abstraction then. Still I like your approach much more. It's like making another world out of the already available.
