About Alternate version of previous image. The square image in intentional (goes against traditional notion of landscape, but I prefer the image this way ;)

Muchas gracias, Txules!

JP

Dear Hugo,

Thank you not only for your helpful comments, but also for the time it took to articulate them in such a clear, concise manner.

I admit that I have much to learn about image postprocessing (I'm just getting started, to tell you the truth). In fact, I only played with this image in LR, but think that I can address some of your suggestions best in PS.

Thanks, again, for your frank insights. They are much appreciated, I assure you.

Saludos,

JP

Hi JP,

Just surfed back to your portfolio to see the previous image, and I prefer this one. The square composition, as well as the composition grab the attention. The emptiness makes it rather strong.

I do think, the level of postprocessing reduces the image quality, affecting the appeal of the image rather severely. With some simple masking techniques, the halo between the edge of the hill and the mountains in the rear could've been prevented, giving it a more natural look.

Also, I think the lack of detail in the shadows is distracting, and the rather blotched quality reduces - again - the appeal of this image. I guess you were trying to revive the tones and details in the hills, causing a lot of artifacts, even visible at this reduced size.

Then the sky - the gradient is nice, and I do like the balance of colours, matching the fields in front. Yet, I think a deeper blue tone in the sky on top would add more punch to the photo.

None of these things alone would bother me, as they may well fit within the scope of "artistic freedom" but combined, I feel they degrade the image a tad too much.

Cheers,

Hugo
