About Doyle & I were sitting on the sofa, trying not to bite our nails, waiting for any word on the efforts of the rescue party. Faintly we could hear a whistle in the distance. Going outside, about 200 feet from home we could see the weary, dirty rescue party returning and much to our surprise we could see Gene being carried on a home made stretcher.....he being so much smaller than everyone else, his poor little legs just could not keep up. He was blowing a tune on a whistle helping everyone to keep a steady pace. The bigger stuffies helping the smaller (and more tired) ones to keep up......the saying being "no stuffie left behind".
