Hi Kim, I have an umbrella that I use for my portraits. In this shot it is located behind her and my speed light was used for fill in flash. PS was then used to adjust levels and smooth out the skin. I was using a 60mm fixed lens which is great for portraits but as you noticed has a very fine DOF. Lighting and PS work are my biggest tools for good portraits. Hope that helps you and enjoy taking portraits they are fun to do. Thanks for the comments, Chris

Fabulous treatment on this photo... I might be the only one, but I wish her other eye wasn't so soft. She has such an intense stare and I think if both eyes were in focus I would feel it penetrating out of the image.
Do you have studio lights as well, or was this done with the external flash?
I am starting to get into portraits and love looking at them when they are done well... like yours are!

Wowee-- the high key & soft treatment of the skin contrasted to the dark eyes and the mid-tone balance of hair and lips is fantastic. This is a serious "keeper" for a portrait. --Best regards, Jan
