Sorry James,
There is no title on the image. The only explanation in the photo annual is that it comes from a portfolio titled Children's Dreams. It goes on to say. "he attempts with slight transformations to create a feeling of surrealistic fantasy"
I'll keep searching for an image on the google images and let you know if I find one.

Since it's almost Halloween...
I just posted another version of this one that has a little less heavy handed photoshop work on it.

Do you know the title of the photo to which you refer?

Hi Dave,
Was it the original 1973 movie with Christopher Lee? I saw that one a few years ago. A wierd little movie full of pagan rites and rituals.
Or was it the new version with Nick Cage? I haven't seen that one. I heard it is a remake of the original.

There are plenty of interesting sites out there that explain the meaning of the wicker-man. I know it's some kind of rites of spring, burning in effigy thing that the ancient people of Britain used to do.
This quote comes from one of the websites I found.

"A Wicker-Man was used to offer sacrifices to the gods. The victims were animals and humans.
The humans were often prisoners, taken during tribal conflict, or convicts found guilty of a crime deserving death."

That kind of stuff lends itself well to doing these semi fantasy darkside images. I just hope people don't get the wrong idea and think I'm some kind of devil worshipping nut case :)

I think I'll put that quote in the about anyway. :)

You know, Andre, when I commented on this, I had no idea what "Wicker Man" was... then just a couple hours later, the movie came on HBO... and at the end, I understood your title... LOL... it was a good movie, too. Apparently not a big hit, I never heard of it before.

Hi James,
The exact image that inspired me to do this one and a couple of others, is in a portfolio by Tress called "Children's Dreams"
I have a copy of it in Photograhy Annual 1972.
I did a search for it in Google images and all kinds of other weird and wonderful images by Arthur Tress show up. But not the exact one I'm talking about. Perhaps if I do a search another day, the order of images in Google will be different? In any case, I highly recomment you having a look at some of his work. Some is quite disturbing, but all images are very original. The guy is a true artist. No Photoshop required on his images... just a fantastic imagination and a lot of skill.

Hi Dave,
We invited him to our campfire that night... Unfortunately he had a little problem when it came time to roast the marshmallows.

It started out okay, but the flames got a little out of hand!

I'm glad you like this one. I like to try and copy styles of some other photographers sometimes. This one was inspired by Arthur Tress.

Thanks Fadel,
Nice to hear from you.
I understand exactly what you are talking about.
Yeah, a lot of people don't know what to make of this one...including myself :)

I have to admit, my intention was to create a somewhat eerie, creepy image. Then when I added the Mink head, maybe it got a little too cute. :)
Maybe I should have left my own ugly head on there for more shock value. ;)

Very nice work on this one Andre! yes somehow it is spooky and funny at the same time :) I think it's because of choice of head (or its angle or even lighting not sure exactly), when I cover the head with my hand the image feels very spooky and serious. But beautiful idea and technical work!

Hi Andre!

Well, that's the only way, I guess. We try, we learn, so we also produce much with which we are not very happy, until we manage to output what we want.

Waiting for your next steps still.

Hi James,
Yeah, there is something about adding strange things to the end of our arms and legs that seems to hit some primal fantasy chord with people.
(as proved by the movie Edward Scissorhands)
This one was inspired by an image that I saw (and still remember vividly) from the early 70's by a photographer named Arthur Tress. His image was of a boy half buried in the sand on a beach. The boy had an over coat on and some strange roots and branches were coming out of the ends of his coat arms. I never forgot that image and always wanted to try something like that. I did another couple earlier this year along the same lines. Aqua-Phobia, I think I called them.

Hi Nick,
I had some ideas and tried them for a follow-up to this image. Unfortunately, I was not so happy with the results. I learned a lot trying something different, but I will need a little more time for the sequal to this image.

Thanks Nick,
I thought I would get different reactions from people on this one. What some find funny or amusing, others could find quite disturbing. I'm going to do a few more like this on the weekend. I have a few ideas for multiple shots stiched together. If it works, I'll post some.

Andre with this one you gave me a gooseflesh! Remarkable! And even stronger than the others you made in this style. I want to look at it for a longer time, and I can only have a glimpse of it for some 15 seconds! This time there is also a component of fear of the unknown (for me).

So even the many short looks I have somehow resemble those short sightings of something unknown, hidden in the forests - or rather in the own mind. This way the image manages to not only depict some surreal situation so clearly and with such a great toning and detail, but it goes much further! It documents the *way* such "sightings" of the own mind are made. A very short flash and that was it!

Great work!
