Indeed, "That must depend on the definition of life itself." So I only use the perfect definition.

That would be very interesting to check out in order to compare to this one.
Life is perfect? That must depend on the definition of life itself.
I“ve just returned from Norway visiting some old familymembers that indeed understand how to live life well, humble and surrounded by friends.
Did you go to Kavala? I“m so sorry for the poor Greek people seing their land and homes being burnt off and some even losing their lives. Just awful also with a government that does very little to help its people.
Best wishes

I assume stronger and stronger that I should return to that place for some high contrast B&W shots too.

Life is always perfect, even if some of its carriers think differently.

Yes, this version I prefer. It is of course a personal choise how close to reality the photo should look like, but here the interesting details are emphasized better.
Oh, my days are up and down being human, thank you. No perfect life like yours I“m afraid.
Best wishes

Turned to B&W and increased contrast

Nick Karagiaouroglou Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:127263} 8/28/2007
B&W and more contrast, you say.. OK, let's try that. I converted it to B&W and increased the contrast for a glance of what it might have been. It is stgronger now, but it doesn't represent as well the real feel on that street, with all the weak colors. In some sense the alterted image resembles afterwards beautification by accepting almost bourgeois ideals. I like more the dustier look of the original though the alteration is also not bad at all to me.

My days are always good. Hope your's are too.

Yes, I prefer the B/W-version although it needs some contrast or even better being shot with a B/W roll of film naturally.
I find it hard sometimes to chose what is the best, B/W or colours depending on the motive and situation. In this case I would never doubt though unless there were some wonderful flowers hanging there as a bright contrast to the house.
I guess the details of these houses are varied making some good to have in full size and others in a more close almost abstract version.
Have a good day in z Alps

Which means that I should use a B&W film instead. Anyway, here is the B&W image. It goes somewhere to old-fashioned street photography. I guess some higher film sensitivity could add the appropriate amount of grain in order to make it feel more "aged".

As about details, one can get them also through good sharpness when not framing only the main protagonist, but of course this demands more care. On this case a tighter crop while the house is still as a whole on the image would only magnify the details at about 10%. It should be framing on some special part of the house in order to see more of the details on the surface.

Such houses demand a more thorough study, it seems, that includes images of them as a whole (for general spatial considerations) and also of some details of them (for partial shape considerations.) Perhaps I'd go for it some day.

Best wishes,

Nick

Oh I meant B/W completely because the wooden structure on the white walls are so interesting and the colours here and there provide nothing of interest to the photo. I might have added some contrast as well, but I know there could be a danger of overexposure on the white walls.
I would also have made a tighter crop, but we all have different preferences and approcahes. Depth in this photo doesn“t do much to me. I would have enjoyed to see all the details of this beautiful house even if it meant lacking depth.
Yes, I can imagine that the house is dark and claustrophobic inside. In Denmark the old beautiful homes made in the past centuries are all made for keeping in the warmth and that means that the light is left outside:-(
Not until the past decades have architects been aware of the importance of light in homes and the positive effect it has on our souls.
Take care

Thanks a lot for the nice, detailed comment, and the suggestions, Annemette!

The house looked nice from the outside, but the inside was quite the opposite. Small windows, dark materials, tiny rooms, and so the light was rather low in there. There was some kind of claustrophobic atmosphere like being trapped. But the outside was nice for capturing.

Now on to your suggestions, which I think are represented by the attachement (?). It is almost B&W now, isn't it? Perhaps it fits the age of the house better this way. The crop makes it look flatter than the original. Perspective and depth are left out this way. From all the comments up to now I have the impression that most people prefer in general this "flat" approach" - close-up-like images that define what one should see. I am more into the "whole scene" and its certain kind of freedom of selection of what to look at, so I would retry that with an even wider angle lens.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Nick

All the wood and the small flowerpots make this old house so cozy and full of atmosphere. The figure seem to descend from a ship.
Although having a kind of bars in front of the windows, it looks very inviting.
I would personally have cropped it a bit tighter on the right and in the bottom and desaturated it.
Best wishes
