of course the mother came back.....or at least that is what I told my daughter. He was gone one morning but healthy and fed there is no reason not to beleive he was not reunited with the colony. Are seals as common in Australia?

Here is another shot of him against the rocks, you are quite right that he just blends in in shape and colour.
