Another great piece of work here, Dave! And what a nice separation of your main subject from the rest of the world! There seem to be some small(est) loss of contrast/sharpness on the monarch but the overall enhancement of the protagonist works excellently still, in all those vivid colors that really radiate on the peaceful green canvas.

Best wishes and keep it up,

Nick

Wow, I think I posted a photo a a flower very much like this one -- but I didn't have the butterfly in mine (which is absolutely gorgeous BTW). Funny that your flower is from Winnipeg and mine was from New Mexico. If it is the same plant, it does well in very different climates.

This is a fabulous image!

Best to you,

Maryanne

Beautiful clarity and I love the bright contrasting colors. The crop is good except maybe the bottom, i would have liked to see all of the petals, but that is just nit picking since this is a critique shot. :) Alison

The title is apt in more ways than one, Dave! The butterfly is like a monarch on his throne of blossoms! Beautiful colours and setting for the Monarch!

Dave, I don't know about the tecnicalities, but to me the shot looks wonderful! The details and colours are striking! And the whole composition seems to have been built on order. I love it!

Lovely shot Dave,

Excellent composition and great colours! And such a fitting title. The little flower in the bottom righthand corner may be a bit distracting, but cropping it out would only weaken the composition(imho). All in all, expert work. Well Done!!

Cheers,
Stef

Absolutely great, well the butterfly is very good however I am impressed from the flower!!! A great macro, with a very unusual flower, beautiful!
hmmmm.....ahhh if you could have a smaller aperture...if, I know that compact cameras does not have...and for the first time I think only Panasonic Lumix 12Mpix compact can give an f/18 (with very big difference from the second the best in that) Anyway, with a smaller aperture the buterfly's "face" could be more clear but the photo really looks great as it taken by a small camera, so excellent!

Real nice considering you were in macro mode. Colours and lighting are nice. I like the wing position on the butterfly. My only critique would be to try and crop out the flower in the bottom right corner. I love the Blue Jay shot too, looks like kyou were right on top of him. Great work.

Hi Dave,
I'm going to rock the boat a little here and give a few constructive comments on this one. I know most people are going to tell you how great it is, but I'm going to attempt to compare it to your Butterfly Highway "Donor of the Day" image.
Here is why I think the Butterfly Highway image is better than this one.

The colours are limited in BH therefore the composition seems less cluttered.
This one has a lot of different un matching colours.

The little Skipper in BH is in a much better position for showing the detail in his head and wings.
I think if the Monarch's wings were more open and he was more 3/4 view this would improve the image.

In my opinion, that is why the Butterfly Highway image is a well deserved choice for DOD

Dave, this is a seriously good shot...I love the green background which really compliments the detail of the butterfly. Overall, the colour, depth of field and sharpness is very good and this is an image to inspire others; me especially.Regards, Brian
