Hi Dirk! Your photos are always very specifically and carefully crafted. This is a scene just asking to be photographed and you have certainly done it justice.
But somehow hay bales looked even more photogenic in the days when there were lots of square bales scattered over the field, and again before that when the hay was forked manually onto a spiked pole (as as still occasionally seen in parts of Central Europe).

Hi, Tim, great comment thanks for the advice. I find that when I scan a negative, it is always a little distort, if I print the images in a darkroom the results are far more superior. Old technology is still better with a black and white negative! Thanks, Dirk.

Yo, Dirk -- I so miss the hay bales, and there's a picture almost identical to this hanging on my wall (mine's color)! Took it years ago (along with many others 'cause one can't ever get enough pics of hay bales if one loves the country -- no joke). This one's lovely. This one's nice than mine, but mine was taken pre-Photoshop ;) My suggestion here is to enhance the detail and brighten the highlights in the foreground. That would enhance the DOF and tonal range, give more dimension to the front hay bale, and show off the delight there is in the details of that durn hay. Fond regards. Antonia

ahhh yes those hay rounds are sooo tempting. Hard to pass without thinking. HEY! There is a composition with those things! so should it be HAY?!? Beautiful setting compositionally. just wondering though, if you could use a little more contrast in the foreground to enhance the texture and detail interest, to help draw my eye into the image just a little more strongly
