Looks pretty clever actually. The ship flat and you just pull the middle up and the spiral shape falls out underneath it. They have them available on-line:

Looks like you can get them from many places on-line, but this one has pictures so you can see how they are shipped. I might have to get me one. Shoot it in the backyard.

Haha - Well even if I had a studio ( I don't) its back in Tasmania - like a 10 hour Internation flight follwed by a 1 hour domestic flight. Just imagine carrying one of these on board ( unlight of course) They are over 1 Metre ( 3 feet long. I guess I better stick to landscapes -

Yeah, night migh help. Or you could just get one of these cones for yourself and take it back to the studio for a shoot.

Thanks James. Lighting was a problem. All of the cones ( dozens) were hanging in the centre of a large open segment of the roof. There was quite a breeze and much of the smoke was disipated. The open roof was the light source and quite strong as you can see from the samll image I have included. The prayer cone image was one cone that was at the edge of the opening and the inside ceiling became the backdrop. And as you can see there is plenty ( to much) light on the ceiling as well. This cone and just afew others was one of the few cones that actually had a spiral of smoke because it was out of the main breeze. Noe - if this all reads as an excuse for not doing a better job, its not meant to be - Just giving some info on the realities of the shooting situation. Next trip - without the tour guide.

This is an interesting subject. If you could control your lighting better you could get a really good shot of the spiral of the cone and its smoke rising up through it.
