About Cove Bay near Hopeman draws me like a magnet particularly from May onwards when the sun sets far enough around to cast it's warm light over the pale stones that tumble ito the Moray Firth. The water is exceptionally clear and you can see the stones below the surface which adds to the 3-dimensional nature of the scenery. Perhaps best of all is the sweeping cove that leads to the setting sun, already below the horizon and staining some of the clouds blood red.

Pentax 67 II ,55-100 zoom,Fujichrome Velvia
F22 at 4 seconds, 0.6ND hard grad over sky and 0.45ND soft grad on diagonal across sea and sky. Exposure off immediate foreground stones. Please visit my website at www.transientlight.co.uk and www.timecatcher.com

Hi John thanks for your comments. It is a little disconcerting isn't it. Actually the only true horizon is at the right third of the picture before the spit of land in black that juts out That bit is flat level and the horizon is about thirty miles away. The rock that juts out is actually pretty close a couple of hundred yards at most, the bay curves all the way around to it so it gives the impression that the horizon tilts strongly to the left.

Very nice. Good fg detail and interesting composition. The only thing that IMHO is not right is the curvature of the horizon which is surprising considering the lens used. It might just be my eye sight. John

The detail and soft textures captured in the foreground pebbles both below the water surface and on the shoreline; the colours both reflected and in the sky. A remarkably impressive image, Ian.
