I really like it, yeah the colour balance is a bit strange, but if it was perfect it would be boring.

I don't think it's distracting at all. I find it a refreshing vertical in an image replete with horizontal elements.

I've never used the 100mm macro, but a big YES to the zoom choice.

Hi Kamran. Stick with Canon!! Buy the 24-70L for your everyday lens and 16-35L for your landscapes.

I know, thats ok John - I came to that conclusion more from a lack of interest from the regulars, and just a general feeling from those that did comment. No big deal, just thinking outloud :)

Peta
I didn't say I was disappointed or, that I didn't like it. Perhaps your change of motif came as a bit of a shock. But I also said that "it has atmosphere and a good sense of "being home". (Don't tell me you are nesting!!??) But I'll also tell you that it reminded me very of the painter David Hockney - don't ask me why, it just did. He is one of my favourites So, that's it, but perhaps a little more sharpness?

Yeah thanks John, I think you're not the only one disappointed with me over this one :) It worries me that I still like it - maybe my taste/style is changing? Anyway, enjoy your weekend!

Such a warm shot Peta. But far from your best. However, as already stated, it still has atmosphere and a good sense of "being home".

LOL!
All this critiquing has tired me out... Do you mind if I take a seat and "rest" for a little while?

Its so good to hear what someone does not like about a shot for once. thank you! Good on you. The light is from a window on the other side of the room.

I've seen better still life's from you. What I find confusing here is not the lamp stand (which I don't mind at all), but the color balance between the tangent (lamp) and what could be light from say the television.

Almost abstract.....the tones and composition really allow for a peaceful moment. The compositional balance is perfect. I think the lamp stand is needed for the added tension it creates and the little bit of contrast it adds to make this image more interesting
