About Raw materials is certainly a challenge. Here I have placed an ancient roman coin on top a penny. These coins . . . used with copper for thousands of years . . . are one of the many uses for that metal. The modern penny is more than twice as thick as the Roman coin (the head of Caesar is barely visible after more than a thousand, and possibly up to two thousand years have passed. They must be very carefully restored and seldom are they permitted to touch air, not to mention human skin oil. Then they must be researched. My oldest is dated 215 to 212 BC, a beaded head of Janus. This particular coin has yet to be properly Identified but is in better than average condition. Presented in razor thin DOF to emphasize the metal.

Interestingly enough . . . the head of state still adorns each coin here . . .

(105mm; 68mm kenko extension tubes; 10x macro conversion filters; remote BD800 BBL-TTL flash from the side for depth; Commander flash from the camera (front curtain); f/3.0; 1/60 sec;ISO 100; Mode III s(RGB) color)

I keep coming back to this shot D.C. I must confess that I'm not well educated in this type of selective focus, however I am a big fan of macrophotography, and the in-focus section has beautiful clarity and light balance. A very nice addition to your impressive portfolio. Well done. Best regards-john

I think this has the best selective DOF I have ever seen. Never imagined such a thin DOF that could be achieved. Very wonderful idea executed, and I must admire your planning behind this composition.
best regards,
Bhabesh

Thanks very much (rub rub) Jan!! :)

I've no need to rub your nose my friend . . . and I suspect you're a lot better at macro work than you claim (Remember I've SEEN your pin cushion). Thanks very much!

That really is a difficult project, I think you did excellent here, I like the nice tones and textures, the sharp center focus and shallow dof works well..

Doyle -- You just did this to rub in my nose that I have no serious macro capabilities. Wow -- I am not even sure that "razor-thin" describes DOF this shallow. Interesting background information -- for one thing I did not realize how thin these ancient coins were and that they could be restored. Superb macro obviously with much careful planning and expertise.
--Best to you, Jan
