Annemette - Naw, you don't have to go through all the trouble. I already look pretty freaky taking my luxagraphic photographs anyway.

Aha! Good to know because then I can make you do the weirdest actions by saying this or that;-)And of course I will sit nearby with my camera to memorize it*LOL*

Annemette - Actually, that's sort of how I work. I find a rule and then seek out a way to break the rule but still produce. If someone says "this is how it cannot be done" I look to find a way to do it that way. An extra challenge.

*LOL* Probably! That is only a few days experience talking whereas you´ve spent lots of time on this:-)
Be well

Annemette - Thank you. I'm glad I could help. The only thing is that when you mention all of those guidelines in your comment... my brain says "I could violate each of those and do a good shot". Hehe.

Thank you very much for your thorough explanation. By playing I see that it´s a matter of low light conditions, open aperture, of course slow shutterspeed and movements that are not too slow making the image ghosty, but not too fast making it all one big blur. Very fascinating to play with, and I can only thank you again for getting me started with this, James:-)

James, all the time for photographic investigation that you invest in your work, is directly visible in your images. Thus, I can only be glad and really look forward to your next steps!

Splendid image! The darkness is really almost free of any noise and the lights shine so brightly on that simple background! An abstract in the best sense of modern photography, working only with light and geometry! This one could decorate the walls of some very modern night café, or even the walls of a museum of modern arts.

Keep it up and best wishes,

Nick

Marian - Thanks. For some reason that Police song came into my head while I was working on this photograph. Figured it was a sign. Went with it.

Annemette - Thanks.

The shape of the lines will usually tell the kind of movement used. In this shot there were two movements involved: one for the christmas lights and another for the street lamps.

First, I moved the camera up from darkness to darkness through the christmas lights. Second, I swung the camera about to move past the nearby street lamps.

It took several tries to get all that in within my shutter time, but I don't mind working a shot until I get it right (or at least interesting).
