About The building blocks of everything from Oak Trees to nutrition. The incredible seed. A variety here from the safflower and millet and other types which we use to grow sprouts for our birds.

105mm Micro - with 3X converter - and 68mm extension tubes. Seeds are absurdly small . . . Like the DOF!

(105mm; ISO 100; 1/350 sec.; f/2.8; 0 ev; Mode I s(RGB); +9 degrees to hue; center weighted metering)

No Shirley . . . I was neither asking for nor was I implying you should do that. I was simply saying where there is NO comment, I'll assume that's what you WOULD HAVE said! Understand what I'm saying? Incidentally, Thanks for the 7 . . . I doubt I would give myself a 7 for this one though. I suspect some, like me, find themselves as their own worst critics - :)

Just wanted you to know I understood that you were busy and not to worry about lil ol' me.... and that I would assume only the best would have been added by you if you had the time . . .

Frankly, I avoid saying any score . . . I just give it, for the most part. You may have noticed that people often say 7/7 but don't do it . . . You hardley ever see 6/7! I'd keep doing what you're doing already . . . if it ain't broke . . . don't fix it! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Shirley:

You do YOUR thing . . . . I totally don't mind waiting to hear your comments if it helps at all. In fact, I'll just assume you WOULD have said 7/7, Genius for every image you miss! :)

Wonderful use of DOF and a great framing according to rule of third. The colors and bokeh are all soothing to me and just appropriate IMO. An easily overlooked subject for many like me, but wonderfully composed and presented by an experienced eye behind the lenses.
I think I love everything in this composition.

Thanks Jan . . . very much. It seems to be coming to me faster than I had assumed it would . . . though it's not even close to the speed I could weild the D-50 with since the settings were so second nature to me. Luckily, there ARE similarities. And I still think, in time, it will also become 2nd nature.

By the way your brilliant analysis of the innate quality in this photo has been recognized and is a featured critique now!!!! LoL! Uhhhhh . . . well . . . you know . . . humbly and all that!! :)

If it was easy . . . it wouldn't be worthwhile, huh? ;)

HEHEHEheheheee . . . Annemette . . . you are certainly one of a kind. There are, it turns out, seeds that make the bird's feathers shiny and really amazing. But . . . uhhhhh . . . YOU have to eat them! LoL! And chocolate for birds is toxic as you well know!! So NO snickers . . . have to eat them ourselves I guess . . . you know . . . to protect the birds!!! Thanks my friend!

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 3/26/2007
Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Doyle -- Actually I think the razor-thin DOF and the smooth, soft representation of the seeds works well for this abstract-like photo. I would never have thought of the composition the way you did and full lower third with the blurred 2/3 background actually works. I think I would not have ventured there but bingo! It works.
Have fun fumbling and thinking four or five times before finding and getting the settings right. A new camera will do that to you; menus, buttons, physical placement... they are never the same. Each new camera is created as an improvement and it drives us nuts as we get into the head and mind of the designer.
Enjoy; I think you should be pleased with the results so far.
--Best regards, Jan

Very good tones in this one, Doyle, the DOF is excellent and the use of a third of the photo as a mainpoint of interest.
You grow these yourself? I bet you´ve secret ingredients and seeds that you give them to make their feathers more shiny and make the birds be more comfortable, unless of course you hand them a snickers once in a while*LOL* Snickers while cure everything mmmm

Doyle D. Chastain Doyle D. Chastain   {K:101119} 3/26/2007
Thanks Robert!

Yeah . . . I like to call it eccentricity (seems to keep the pesky guys in white coats away)!

Steep learning curve here and I'm really bummed that my lightening quick reflexes and instinctive manual settings on the D-50 have been discarded. Now it takes me WAY longer to figure out even HOW to change some of the settings . . . but once I get it down I think it'll be an awesome trade up! Just takes practice, time, practice, study and practice. I expect my image quality may suffer till I get it down better and this baby is FAR more sensitive to the slightest thing. I considered not posting for a time but I enjoy it so much and I'll be able to guage my improvement better. For some time now I have been doing rather well in my efforts and trying to help others who are struggling . . . once again, I will join their ranks and get to work!! :)

Doyle I <~~~~~

Congrats on the D200,awesome camera!!!
You are one crazy guy to even attempt this image
with that setup, just wish the area of interest was sharper BUT you are not a magician so....
GREAT EFFORT Doyle.
Take care

I wouldn`t in my wildest dreams think of that setup far less attempt it.!!!

Thanks Very much Michelle. I'm exploring this camera like Merlin (my cat) explores the aviaries (See attached). This shot I attached shows the DOF is way too narrow, for example . . . but ( hehehee ) - I think I'm gonna learn!!
