About One reasons a Fly, whether on the wing or at rest, is so hard to hit is the nature of its eyes. Humans have two lenses - one in each eye, the Housefly has eight thousand lenses - four thousand in each eye. Bulging outward from the sides of its head, the thousands of six-sided lenses fit together like honeycomb cells, and provide wide-angle vision unknown to humans.

The eyes of a fly do not have eyelids, so flies rub their eyes with their feet to keep them clean and it sleeps with its eyes open.

Camera settings: 1/15 sec - f/45 - ISO 200 - FL 105mm +1 +2 +3 close-up filters.

Bit disturbing... I prefer them smaller and am glad that we don't see them like that on a regular basis. But fantast close up.

Ok I understand your explanation. Was just wondering why 1/15. :-)

Hi Bernard,
Actually I agree with you regarding the slow shutter speed but that was because I wanted a narrower apperature; f/45 in this case; coz as you know with macro photos especially with the use of close-up filters you get a very very shallow DOF and I was afraid in this case I get a soft photo.
By the way, this was a knocke-out fly, I catched it a small container and I freezed it in the fridge, i.e., it wasn't moving, that' why I was able to slow the shutter speed down to 1/15 sec.
Thanx again my friend for your concern.
Take care,
Khaled.

It seems to be moved. I think 1/15 is too slow shutterspeed. But it's already a great photo!

Fantastic macro, Khaled! Great detail, especially the eyes and your "about" answers a question I've always wondered about when you see flies scratching their heads.
Dave.
