As far as my camera is concerned - It is an absolute pleasure to have so much scope available in terms of focal length (28 - 300 mm zoom, zoom ring), its macro function is great, ISO 80 to 1600 is impressive. It really delivers lovely portraits as well. But one needs external flash for indoor scenes - aperture is limited; therefore, I always say it's an excellent tripod camera. But for low light snapping-that-spider-before-sunset, or in any less-than bright situation - out pops the little forbidding hand to indicate camera shake - and I find it very burdonsome to have to walk around with a tripod. So, its a wonderful camera for scenes in sufficient light, but if you mind using a tripod, and if you don't want to use flash lighting on your spiders or flowers, then you must find a camera with a better aperture range. I watched a photographer at a wedding in September last year - both her cameras were Finepix S9000 (also known as S9500)and she hardly ever removed them from the tripod. The photographs were stunning, nevertheless! I am busy doing research at the moment for a second camera, in fact, exactly for this reason. Unfortunately, now I shall have to get used to changing lenses - the Finepix S9500 spoiled me with its marvelous zoom ring.
Hope your friend enjoys his camera as much as I do!

Thanks, Jose. Your portfolio is impressive. One of my favourites is Beauty on the sky.3EL.Malecon (2003) Your work will benefit from a few touches of Photoshop - you have a true photographer's eye.
