This is a series of old negatives from a nice trip I've done in 1987 to Búzios, a cozy little town near Rio de Janeiro. The images were shot with a Minolta 110, one of the films was bought there at a store the could be anything except a photo store. Add to this time and we have these interesting, at least on my opinion, color shifts. Plus, 110 film was very small, hard to manipulate. So the labs glued a plastic strip to fit them on 35mm film holders. As Murphy's Laws rules, naturally the glue felt a desperate need for action and spread on everything... I found them about three days ago and, after baths of water here's what I could rescue. I decided not to use Nikon's soft ICE feature to correct the scratches because I think they give a sense of time I found part of this series history. I prefer them scratched, no matter how strange this may seem.
you are very welcome jose and the most beautiful things are not only in perfection of techniqe ... that is my opinion and i stand behind it :) just do like your heart is telling you :) ... see you asap, hugs, srna
thanks for the comment. Nice to know people were receptive to this image so I'll place more of this series. As I was commenting above with James, I don't remember seeing images like this - unretouched and scratched - here on Usefilm. Like you, I think they may give the image an artistic look and also call for memories and emotions forgotten. Serendipity has its place here, since this is something we cannot control like on Polaroid dye transfers. I think most people are afraid to dare, to face the new (or old in this case...) or what's not "perfect". From what I've seen in my 43 years, perfection is usually boring. At a point, people begin to value only technique, making images with perfect lighting, focus, sharpness, colors, you name it, but lacking emotion, strenght to touch others. Technique doesn't lead to creativity, it helps it, but it's not creativity. And for perfection, I think the example below illustrates my feelings on it: I remember one episode of Twilight Zone where a bad boy died and was sent to a perfect world he thought was heaven. After a few days having all desire fulfilled, and extremely bored by this, he discovered he was in hell.
nice to know you too understood the mood. I'll be placing more images of this series, should you be interested. Hope you like it. By the way, I don't remember ever seeing images like this - unretouched and scratched - here on Usefilm. When they're relevant, why not show them?
Hi Srna, thanks for the comment. At first I thought many would just say that I forgot to clean the negative, but you got the mood. Nice to know. I'll place more of this serie. It was really a trip that brings back very nice memories.
