It is a fabulous shot, no doubt, stunning in fact. However, I can't help wonder if it would be even stronger with slightly less sky and more reflection? Anyone?

Beautiful catch Andreas with an original angle to thake this photo. I am not sure I would choose for the same angle. The swan looks a bit unreal to me this way, but... that is personal. The colors and lightning are great!

A real winner! The combination of flash and sun really put the light on this bird. Like the drops of water on the feathers. Glad you said it was real. At first I was suspicious that it was produced in the 'shop'.

Andreas,
As an occasional judge of competitions let me say I wish I had been priveledged to judge this image. It is hard to say if there would be any fault at all. As a judge I don't use the usefilm rating method but here is my score and why.
Lighting - An excellent tonal range, no extensive shadow or highlight, with the key subject having excellent detail. Use of low power fill flash.
Composition. Rule of 1/3rd is satisfied for both horizon and subject (Swan).
Originality - A most unusual perspective, mix of landscape and nature (wildlife). Low angle shot and combination of lighting, angle, partial reflection and subject to give something "different"
Technical - Excellent use of DOF, Image is sharp and correctly exposed. Good use of WA lens contributing to good composition, Use of Fill Flash. Well presented no dust or scratches.
Appeal and Impact - A pleasant Picture with excellent subject that stands out from the crowd, using an "ordinary sunset" enhanced by an interesting subject . Drop of water dripping from the beak and the position of the head suggests "indifference" from the swan.
Overall - a stunning beautifully crafted image. 10/10

Finally - Sorry for the long story but I just felt this image was worth the effort to comment in detail - Thank you.

@Boris
yes - that is one point I don't like in this photo - the difference between swan and sun is a little too big. It would be better when I changed my position to the right, but I laid on the wet sand in my motorbike clothes and that wasn't easy for this short moment.
I'm still working with this swan, because I've an image in mind, which needs to be shot...don't know when this will happen ;-)

The Swan is too heavy. The water and the sunlight reflection are superb!
I tried to crop the left side all the way up to half sun, it looks more balanced (to my taste)

@Richard,
I've also noticed the blue color of the swan - it comes from the sky above. With my new lightsetup (I'm nearly every day there ... I like the swan .. and maybe he likes me a little and not only the brownbread ;-), the swan becomes white and there is no blue area in the feather. I could remove it with Photoshop, but ... well... I like the effect: "A cool Swan" ;-)

Andreas, This is simply excellent, the composition with the Mute Swan looking our left where the sun is, simply works well. You might consider using a filter over your flash to reduce the color temperature. The difference in the warmth of background scene and the coolness of the Swan is noticeable. The low angle, the water drips and beautiful sun makes this a gorgeous image! Very creative!

I used the buildin flash from the D60. Today I did some shoots with three flashes (thats perfect light and works very well ;-)
But I must wait for another nice sunrise and the swan should come into a nice position - it's 'nearly' wildlife - no park, just a lake with some weekend traffic.
