About View of the Old City Hall clock tower. The building occupies a whole city block. Built in 1899, the stone took more than 1,360 train-car loads to deliver - the equivalent of a train nine miles long. Additionally, 8,354 barrels of cement were used. It was threatened with demolition (!) when a big mall - Eaton's Centre was planned. Now it's a heritage monument.

Dedicated to my talented UF friend Andre Denis, http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/75868.html - see his comment below :)

Thank you very much for your comment, Joe! I couldn't believe when I read that the Old City Hall was slated for demolition a few decades ago, luckily it escaped and it's now a heritage building :) Best regards, Ina

Another great shot of Toronto architecture, The Old City Hall is a great looking building, it looks great with the sun shining on it. Very well composed with the buildings on both side of the street taking your eye back to the Old City Hall.

All the best,
Joe

Thanks very much, Eb! I learned now to work with all this jungle of cables, lights and signage, because you can't avoid them :) Best regards, Ina

Cool effect with the foreshortening and arrangement of contrasting details! Even the light standards and the wires fit in, INa!

No, you missed me, and I didn't see a Triumph Spitfire Roadster :))) But that's a great story! I hope someone took pictures of you! Nowadays only police cars and delivery trucks are allowed to park around there... how things change!
Anyway, I'll see if they'll let me in with the camera, being a courthouse it may not be possible.

Hi Gary, and thanks! I know what you mean about these cables, they bothered me in the beginning, but they hang so low and you can't avoid them. There's cables, signage, stop lights, lamp posts, garbage bins everywhere, so I have to incorporate them into the pictures. I'd go nuts trying to clone them out, that's the way it is. You learn to go sort of underneath them, and then there's more on the other side :)

Hi Ina,
Thanks for the dedication!
Yes, we did get to go in through the main doors and back out after for the rice and confetti throwing and pictures. It all went by in a blur. We were even allowed to pull our car around to the front steps for pictures. (Triumph Spitfire Roadster) The actual ceremony is quite plain and the inside where you get married is very plain and buisness like. They limit the number of people to just a few. Parents, Best Man, Maid of Honour and that's about it. I recall they made an exception for my younger brother to come in for the ceremony. Others had to wait outside. We wanted something small, sensible and inexpensive. And that's what we got. We had an apartment building rec-room reception and off to Europe for a honeymoon two days later to spend the money we saved by having a City Hall Wedding :)

Thanks very much Dave, the Old City Hall and the new one have nothing in common, I prefer the old one. Traffic was not too bad that day, it was Saturday, I was more concerned about some of the characters on the sidewalk :) Best regards, Ina

Thank you very much Harry, the building is very big, it takes a whole city block, and inside it has marble, stained glass, wood, etc. Now it's a courthouse. Best regards, Ina

Wow, great shots, Ina! One thing that always annoys me is all the wires that cross over all the roads... however, this shot makes them seem kind of natural and even necessary for the scene! Very nice indeed and great lighting on the tower. Cheers, Gary

Excellent shot of the old city hall, Ina! Quite a contrast with the new one, and even the buildings on either side of it. You've got great lighting here for it, too. BTW, be careful playing in the traffic!
Nice of you to dedicate it to Andre, too!
Dave.

Very cool shot, Ina, great mixture of city elements especially the old bulding architecture is very attractive, I like the combination tube slim shape columns and the tall vertical arcs!
Great dedication to your friends!
Cheers,
Harry

WELL ANDRE, in this case this is dedicated to YOU! I think it must have been beautiful to get married in this building with its gorgeous marble interior double staircase and its great stained glass windows! Now it's a courthouse, and I'm pretty sure no photography is allowed inside. Did you go outside through the main doors? That must have been great, standing on those steps!
I shot it in January, but I'm so happy that it brought back memories! Best wishes, Ina

Ina,
Did you take this one today or earlier in the year? I just drove down Bay Street about 6pm on the way to the Auto Show. I got the light and looked up at this almost identical image (more from the side at Queen and BAy) We were married here in July 73!
Great memories from this image! This is the scene that we saw when we drove ourselves up Bay Steet all dressed up to get married :)
